Disco Superfly

There is a certain magic to how The Disco shoots come together

Their nostalgic character is always deeply personal as our contributors invite the viewers to their interpretation of what the past was like. Similarly, this time, when Shelby (the photographer) was inspired by Ardens (the stylist) beautiful home, in itself a nod to the seventies. As a result of the all-female team creative output, we’re taken into the world of a young girl, hanging out at her place to the rhythm of the Disco music. Looking at the pictures, we can almost hear the music through the screen.

Foreword from Shelby Ursu:

I believe in time travel. We do it through listening to old music, watching old movies, and wearing vintage clothes. When I do my photography, I aim to recreate the past and I aim to also create a feeling of nostalgia. Sometimes my shoots start with me seeing a beautiful vintage piece of clothing and it grows from there. Sometimes they can start from listening to a song that inspires me. Sometimes my shoots start with a specific location-and that was the case with “Disco Superfly.” The stylist for the shoot, Arden, has a beautiful home that feels like you entered a time capsule of the late 60s/early 70s as soon as you walk through the door. The first time I had the pleasure of seeing her home I was in love! From there I envisioned the main character for my shoot- a groovy girl from the seventies who exudes the carefree and glamorous vibes of the disco era. Our all female team came together and blasted 70s music while we did the entire shoot and just had fun with it. The end results, I hope, feel as timeless and nostalgic to the viewers as they feel to me.
