Get to know... Ms. Maverick Muse

Here is the one that made The Disco team immediately search for pillow rollers. We're still far off from Morgan's perfect 70s hair, but we will get there. In the meantime, Morgan has answered a couple of our questions, shedding light on the development of her style and the joys (and little sorrows) of being an iconic content creator.

What has drawn you particularly to vintage when creating your looks?

I have always loved old things, they have character. I feel what draws me most to vintage items is the way they stroke my imagination with their originality and mystery of a life prior.

What are your staple product must-haves for a classic 1970’s look?

My staples for any 70’s look is big hair (ie: disco curls or a good Farrah Fawcett feathered look), purple-blue eyeshadow, a fun maxi dress and a pair of oversized sculptural frames.

Your vintage collection must be insane, do you have any tips on how to find the best pieces?

Thank you! I’ve gotten really good at using keywords when looking for something in particular. In general I’m always browsing online for fun and I find most of my best stuff when I’m not looking for anything in particular but rather, see something pop up on IG or Etsy and make a decision fast based on gut instinct. As for advice, I’d say follow the accounts/shops that have reputable practices and detailed info on the garments. I prefer to buy from someone I know and trust and I see takes pride in their shop and finds.

As a style chameleon is there something you’re currently very into style/era wise?

My style and look is always evolving and changing. I often like to mix and match eras. As for what I am currently vibing with right now...my shag haircut actually. I use a lot of wigs in my looks but last year I got a shag haircut and noticed a lot of my followers asking how to style bangs or the shag in general. I’ve been showcasing my chameleon ways by styling this cut in multiple ways. Rocking my own hair for a change has been refreshing and it’s been fun to show how versatile a Farrah Fawcett cut can be worn in various vintage and modern styles.

How has your personal style changed and developed over the years?

My personal style has always been classic, bold, a little unexpected and very eclectic. Just when I start rocking a maximal colorful style, I switch it up and do something modern/sleek/neutral. That’s always been constant for me, to keep myself and others on their toes. I do believe the main thing that has developed over the years however is a refinement. Like anything in life you do a lot, you become better at it and more refined in your taste and choices. I like to believe that to be the case with my style and craft.

What’s most rewarding in running your account?

Hearing how my art has impacted someone deeply. I’ll get those DM’s, you know the ones where people tell me how something I created or said impacted them profoundly, and it touches you deeply to know what you’re doing has an impact like that. I’ve always lived for those one-on-one connections and always will.

We heard of the newest Andy Warhol documentary using your content in its intro, how have you been dealing with this?

It’s a challenge and an inevitable downside to the job. I have been dealing with it on an emotional level with self-reflection and talking with people I trust. I am also dealing with it on a professional level, enlisting my manager, possibly my lawyer and doing what I can on my end to be compensated. I have also been thinking about it creatively, to see how I might wish to transmute the negative emotion into something positive for myself and others to learn from using my art and platform, should it come to that.

MORGAN’S MUSIC FAV’s

What is one thing that you wish you knew 10 years ago?

Don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s, it’s unique to you.

A vintage trend that you would love to see have a comeback?

I would love to see a resurgence of the Dior "New Look." The 1950's always feels so idealistic to me because women had the time to look pristine and polished. Now we all rock our athleisure and messy buns, which don't get me wrong I love and partake in more than I care to admit, but I do love a good polished and feminine silhouette.

And lastly, considering the rapid changes within the social media environment, what do you see for Ms. Maverick Muse in the next 5 years?

In the next 5 years I see myself not only keeping up to speed with all the twists and turns social media throws our way but rather excelling and growing with it (assuming I enjoy the direction it’s going). If I don’t care for the direction it’s heading, I can definitely see myself becoming a market disruptor in some way. We will see which way it goes, regardless, it will be an interesting ride!
